Established in 1916, Penn State Wilkes-Barre is not only the oldest institution of higher education in the Wyoming Valley, it is also one of the most beautiful campuses in the Penn State system. Located approximately nine miles west of the city of Wilkes-Barre, the campus is situated on the former estate of coal baron, John N. Conyngham, II, in Lehman Township.

Many students begin their Penn State education here, completing course work for the first two years of their major, before moving on to University Park, or another Penn State location. Still others, committed to the area by family or career obligations, choose to earn their associate or bachelor's degree entirely at the Wilkes-Barre campus. Currently the campus offers six associate and eight baccalaureate degees.

Adult learners enjoy a variety of scheduling options, including enrolling part- or full-time, participating in day and/or evening classes, completing a program at their workplace, or studying at home through distance education or the University's World Campus. Penn State Wilkes-Barre also offers courses at the Northern Tier Center in Towanda, and at Sallie Mae in Wilkes-Barre.

The campus' Continuing Education department serves the needs of individuals and organizations in four counties with professional development and customized training for individuals and organizations. School age youth can enrich their experiences by attending academic enrichment and athletic camps.
